Service - "Give Yourself. Gain Everything."

The call to love and serve others is central to following Jesus.  Therefore, we encourage young people to consider taking this calling seriously by participating in one of the many service programs of Mennonite Mission Network or Mennonite Central Committee.

DOOR - Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection

DOOR offers organized urban experiences, service, worship and reflection for groups and individuals from all denominations.  Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection (DOOR) offers coordinated experiences designed to challenge groups and individuals from all denominations to "See the Face of God in the City" as they are introduced to city life by spending various lengths of time volunteering, listening, worshipping and reflecting on their experiences. With three different levels Discover, Discern, Dwell and locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Hollywood, Miami and San Antonio there are many options from which to choose.

 Mennonite Voluntary Service (MVS)

Mennonite Voluntary Service provides a way for people to live out their faith through deeds of service in communities throughout the United States. Interested persons age 20+ are invited to apply for a term of one or two years by March.  Check the Service Opportunities listing for detailed assignment information and possible locations.service

Radical Journey

Radical Journey provides experiences for cross-cultural learning, service and intentional faith formation in community. Participants are expected to see anew what God is doing in the world and imagine ways they can join and influence others to join in God’s mission of love and reconciliation. Radical Journey is an experience for young adults who are willing to be transparent, who are willing to learn and grow, and who are flexible and open for God to transform their lives. Young adults 18-30 are invited to apply for a term of one year.  Possible Locations for 2009:  Asunción, Paraguay; Bradford, England; Canberra, Australia; Jokkmokk, Sweden; Pietermartizburg, South Africa

saltSALT (Serving and Learning Together)

SALT is a year long cross-cultural living and serving experience for Canadian and US Christian young adults between the ages of 18 to 27 in the assignments offered by MCC partners throughout the world. 

SWAP (Serving with Appalachian People)

SWAP provides opportunities for groups to repair homes for people in Kentucky's beautiful Appalachian Mountains, where many families face severe economic hardship. Participants learn about the dynamics of poverty, strengths of the people they have come to help and importance of service.  There are also short-term summer assignments for young adults.

Service Adventure

Service Adventure gives young adults an adventure in service, learning and spiritual growth. Service Adventure participants take a break from the beaten path to serve others, build supportive relationships and live in community under the direction of a unit leader. Most importantly, they give themselves time to see what God wants from their lives.  Interested participants age 17-20 and group leaders age 24+ should apply by June 1.  The length of term is ten months for participants and two years for group leaders.

Youth Venture

Youth Venture provides opportunities for youth and young adults to join together for service and learning experiences.  Since 1985, more than 700 people have participated in Youth Venture in assignments ranging from construction, yard work and home repair to Bible school, recreational and community programs. Youth Venture offers the opportunity to join with others for one to four weeks of service in July or August. Youth Venture recruits a team leader and invites participants to groups that will live and work together in various North American and international mission projects, pray and study the Bible together.  Interested persons age 14-20 are invited to apply for North American trips, while those age 16-25 may apply for international locations.
