Sunday School

becomers

A variety of adult classes meet immediately following the Sunday morning worship service for fellowship, prayer, study, and discussion.  A list of the classes, along with a description of each, can be found below. Some of the classes use The Adult Bible Study lessons published by Mennonite Publishing Network.  However, the choice of topics varies widley from week-to-week and class-to-class.  You are invited to visit and join any of the classes offered that interest you.

Sunday School electives are offered periodically focusing on issues related to parenting, marriage, or relevant issues confronting individuals, the church, or society.  For information on current electives check in the bulletin.

soj_sunday_schoolSojourners - Sojourners is a group of young adults, ages 18 to late 20’s, who gather to discuss a wide range of topics such as world culture and diversity, faith in politics, 21st century theology, voluntary service, stewardship, and biblical application.  Other events include informal gatherings for fellowship and discussion, a summer picnic, Christmas dinner, and several other impromptu gatherings organized by class participants.  Room 30 {MAP}

Koinonia – This group gathers with the intent to practice the definition of koinonia-- believers in Christ come together in love, faith, and encouragement.  The class is comprised of single and married persons in their late 20s through 30s.  With several persons having had international service/work experiences, the group has a global church view.  A variety of topics is studied including articles from The Mennonite, a bi-monthly publication, or current issues or literature.  Throughout the year, the class meets for social events.  Room 3 {MAP}

Becomers – The class age range is 30s and 40s.  Topics of study are biblically based and focused on living as followers of Christ.  Time is spent sharing life issues and concerns, both the good and bad times, and lifting these concerns and praises to God.  Room 8 {MAP}

Gemeinschaft—The class gathers weekly for group study, interactive discussion, growth and mutual support.  This is a very large  collection of persons aged 35-55, many of whom assume teaching or other roles within the wider church community.  Room 6 {MAP}

Fellowship of Friends - This is a diverse class of single and married persons in their 40s and 50s.  A variety of topics are studied including The Adult Bible Study lessons and current issues relating to Christian faith.  During the year the class has several social activities and weekend events.  Room 26 {MAP}

Christiannaires – The class consists of singles and couples mostly in their 50’s and early 60’s who study the Adult Bible Study lessons, discuss sermons for a specific sermon series, engage in a book study or invite a guest speaker to share on particular topics.  Four times each year a volunteer committee plans a social activity.  The class also participates in service projects and financially supports a needy Philadelphia Mennonite High School student.  Room 29  {MAP}

Crusaders – This class consists of individuals in their 60s and 70s who are currently employed, run businesses or are retired. Class time is spent sharing concerns and joys, offering support, praying together, and studying a variety of issues integrating study with life issues. Periodically social events are held outside of class time. Contributions are given to special needs within and outside the group as needs arise.  Room 4 {MAP}

Ambassadors - The class members range in age from 62-80.  The Adult Bible Study lessons are used to encourage sharing and discussion.  A value of the group is to be sensitive to the needs of others through prayer support or financial giving.  Social activities are planned at various times.  Room 9 {MAP}

Sermon Interaction - The class is an intergenerational group whose members freely share reflections on the morning's sermon and other related concerns of the Christian life. The goal is to offer an informal "small group setting" where each person is an active participant.  Room 7 {MAP}
